Can Sumoi is the name of an estate, a winery, and a wine label but, above all, it’s the name of an idea: that of feeling nature, working on its form, and turning it into wine.
Can Sumoi has been an agricultural farm since 1645, located in Montmell massif, 600m above sea level. Their challenge is to create wines that reflect their origin, recovering the ancestral traditions and without any type of oenological additives. The estate is planted only with local grapes. The soils of the estate were developed from copper-coloured, ochre and brown material which corresponds to the Montmell Formation, which is made up of sediment formed between 100 and 113 million years ago in the Cretaceous period; there are few soils as ancient as these on the Iberian Peninsula.
Grape: Sumoll 60%, Xarel-lo 40%
Region: Montemell mountains, Serra de l'Home range in the Penedès
Viticulture and Winemaking: Grapes are handled by delicately and are harvested manually. They are destemmed and undergo soft treading, and low pressure pressing. 100% organic, high altitude wine.
Behind its fragile appearance lies a wine with great personality, floral and mineral, reminiscent of the stone fruit and pulp of raspberries, but above all the petals. If life were rosy, everyone would definitely drink this wine.
