LOCATION & TERROIR
Mâconnais is the more southern sub-region of Burgundy. The Pouilly-Fuissé AOC (800 ha, including 194 ha of Premiers Crus) is situated where the contours become more marked, around the famous rocky cliffs of Vergisson and Solutré-Pouilly and the two other villages of Fuissé and Chaintré. The vineyards cover steep sloping cirques, mainly facing East and South-East, on which the soils are a mixture of clay and chalk from the Jurassic era, from 200 to 400 meters altitude.

The Premier Cru ‘LES VIGNES BLANCHES’, covering in total 19 ha, is one the 22 Premiers Crus of Pouilly-Fuissé. It is located on the 10-15% slope looking upon the village of Fuissé, facing East at 290-360 m of altitude, on stony soils made of residual brown clay, locally on calcareous marls, rather deep, including calcareous and siliceous (chailles) stones. Château de Beauregard produces every year 15 to 25 casks of ‘LES VIGNES BLANCHES’.

WINEMAKING
Harvested at optimal ripeness, our grapes are pressed in taking care to extract structure from the berries skin and thus prevent premature oxidation, then the must is allowed 12 to 24 hours to settle down (débourbage). The fermentation takes place with natural yeasts in 228 l traditional casks (pieces), then the ageing on fine lees last about 1 year in the casks and a few months in a stainless steel vat. Our patient and natural winemaking methods, non-interventionist, do allow our wines to get the true expression of each of our 1ers Crus.

TASTING
Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru LES VIGNES BLANCHES reveals a well-defined bouquet with white and yellow peach, apricot, damp earth and light crushed stone scents emerging with time. The palate of this very seductive Pouilly-Fuissé is well balanced, quite ample and dense, fine weight with a slightly creamy texture towards the citrusy and complex finale. The potential of ageing of this great Burgundy white is from 5 to 10 years, even more if the vintage allows it.
