2023 Joseph Burrier Macon-Milly-Lamartine ‘Montagne de Cra’
HISTORY & TERROIR
Mâconnais is the southernmost sub-region of Burgundy. The Mâcon-Villages appellation covers 3000 ha on 43 different villages. Domaine de la Rochette is located in Milly-Lamartine, where the famous French poet and politician Alphonse de Lamartine was born. Milly-Lamartine is one of the most famous villages in Mâconnais for its high-altitude soils made of white limestone. The climat ‘Montagne de Cra’ is a high-altitude terroir (400 m) of white, stony limestone, shallow and well-drained. Not surprisingly, this exceptional terroir of thin limestone produces top-class white Burgundies.
VINEMAKING
Produced from environmentally-friendly vine-growing, the grapes are harvested at perfect maturity, then the pressing is mechanical ‘old-fashioned’ to promote the extraction of antioxidants and polyphenols from the skins. The juices are then 'settled' by simple gravity at 12°C for 24 hours. The fermentation takes place slowly in 350 l oak barrels and the subsequent ageing will last 10 months on fine lees, before bottling preceded by a light filtration. Our natural winemaking methods, patient and very little interventionist, allow the terroirs to express themselves with much precision and purity.
TASTING
The colour is a bright light yellow. The nose is seductive with notes of acacia flower, citrus fruit, pear and saline touches. The palate is fresh and taut, with a tight, well- balanced texture that is enhanced by a harmonious generosity. The marine finish, delicate but concentrated, is underlined by citrus notes.

ABOUT THE WINERY
Joseph Burrier continues the tradition of their family, working in the vineyards of Southern Burgundy for more than 5 centuries and 17 generations. Today, they farm Château de Beauregard and Domaine Georges Burrier in Fuissé, Château du Clos in Pouilly, Domaine de la Rochette in Milly-Lamartine and Domaine Joseph Burrier in Fleurie.
